OLR has begun some important projects in the church, school, convent, rectory, and parish center this summer. New steps have been constructed for the main entrance to the OLR Church
and a new fire alarm system has beeen installed for the church, gym,
school and Parish Center. Work is underway on a new roof for the Parish
Center; it is a Kemper "poured type" of roof similar to the lining of a
swimming pool and has a 20 year leak-proof guarantee. Plans are being
drawn up to create a green roof on the lower portion of the Parish
Center consisting of 9" deep tubs with plantings
inside. They will sit on the new roof and help with insulation and
water run off. The school has new desks and chairs in the 1st-4th, and 7th grades, and new whiteboards in the jr. high(grades5-7). The convent and rectory are getting new windows to replace the ones that are a half century old. These windows will help lower the heating bills.We have been seriously ivnvestigating the possibility of putting small parapet wind turbines on the school roof prior to Mayor Bloomberg's interest in them.
