Thanksgiving POTS Dinner at OLR

For over 20 years POTS, Part Of The Solution, has held Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in our Parish Center. All the food and volunteers come from Resurrection Parish in Rye, NY. POTS was started by a Jeuit priest, Fr. Ned Murphy. He does a terrific job feeding the hungry every day form a soup kitchen on Webster Avenue between 197th and 198th Street. OLR sets up the tables, provides the decorations, tablecloths and volunteers to receive and sort the food and refrigerate the turkeys.

The picture below is from the Daily News, Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27,2008, taken in the Parish Center kitchen at 10:00am before hundreds of people arrived to eat their Thanksgiving meal sharing table fellowship with strangers and being served by parents from Rye and their children. What a remarkable event...two groups from opposite ends of the economic spectrum brought together by a meal. Mayor Bloomberg, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and City Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera dropped by for a photo op before the guests arrived.

During the summer, if you would like to register your child, please call 718-367-3081 ext.10 and leave a voice mail with your contact number. We will call you with the details and set a date for you to visit us. The school will be open Mon. - Thurs., 9:00am-12:00noon, Aug. 23rd - 26th and Aug. 30th - Sept. 2nd.
